What is good about having a pet?
What’s good about having a pet? As a non-pet guy, and a carpet cleaner- the best thing about having a pet is the need to have your carpets (rugs and upholstery) cleaned more often.
I grew up with pets, at any given time I had between 2 and 20 dogs growing up, in addition to cats, ducks, chickens, and geese. I guess we also had fish, a variety of frogs, and anoles. So I’m no stranger to having animals running around the house.

As an adult, though, I’ve found my need for flexibility (last minute travel, early mornings and late nights) just wasn’t conducive to having a pet at home. We have had chickens, and we’ve loved them, but despite my oldest’s claim to having them trained, they really are more of a wild animal than a truly domesticated pet. I did like getting the eggs, regularly, and they did keep the weeds down in their pen.

We did have a quick stint with butterflies, and a short time with hermit crabs. The kids love pets, and it’s a rare day we’re not asked when we are getting a dog… but for now, with our busy life, pets are not something we are planning on yet. Maybe some more chickens…
