No… I need to know how to use it better…

Do you need time?

I’ve got the same time as everyone else… yet somehow I fall short in using it the best I can. I just saw a blurb on LinkedIn saying that business owners are often addicted to their own suffering. They have the excuse that no one else can do it right. Yep, that’s me. I believe there are others that can do it right, but I question whether they will do it right. And that gets me into a troublesome loop of me running around putting out fires.

I heard once that there are three main positions in a company. The fire chief, the firefighter, and the arsonist. The business owner is usually the fire chief, and surprisingly, is also the arsonist. I know, personally, that is true in my case. I’m often the cause of many of my problems. Not because I intentionally go out to set fires, but because I’m not always proactive in preventing them. Many of the fires that I have to put out are the result of me not putting systems in place, not having the hard discussion, not doing something I should have done months, years, even decades ago.

Lesson will be repeated until lesson is learned. Lesson gets harder each time it’s repeated. Another quote I’ve heard, speaking to time. How much time do I waste repeating the same mistakes, not learning from them? Uff… hard to fathom.

So no, I don’t need more time. I need to learn the lessons that eat up my time. I need to quit creating the problems that eat up my time. And then… maybe I’ll have more time.
